FAQ

Can Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories’ products help customers meet environmental directives while still safely and efficiently converting industrial, chemical, or hazardous waste?

Yes. Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories provides full-furnace refractory capabilities to simultaneously meet local environmental directives and customers’ waste conversion goals. These refractory linings can withstand long exposure to fluctuating heat loads, hot acids, and process gases.

How do Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories’ bricks, castables, and custom shapes perform in terms of corrosion and oxidation resistance?

Refractory bricks, shapes and castables from Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories offer excellent corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance at high temperatures.

Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories is recognized worldwide as an industry leader in the development of high performance refractories.

The company’s custom shape capabilities ensure a more precise refractory lining installation, reduced maintenance and minimal downtime over the equipment’s service life.

Where are Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories’ waste to energy solutions manufactured?

Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories is a global company with several manufacturing facilities around the world. As such, supply can be tailored to meet customer requirements.

Which refractory solutions are best suited to solid/viscous waste material and liquid/gaseous waste material?

Solid/viscous waste incineration applications benefit from the use of rotary kilns and solutions able to offer high abrasion resistance while resisting corrosive atmospheres at high temperatures.

Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories’ Chromcor® BDAK alumina-chromia material is recommended for high wear areas, while mullite-based materials (such as MS4) can be used for the overall lining.

Liquid/gaseous waste incineration typically involves waste from chemical processes being incinerated on site. A range of refractory systems is suitable for these corrosive environments, including chlorides, fluorides, PCBs, and organochlorides. Fluoride-containing waste is very aggressive to silica, even at low temperatures. Coral® FP monolithic - a phosphate bonded ramming monolithic - is therefore recommended for this application. MS2R mullite bricks are recommended for alkali-containing residues.
